Important: Updates on our response to the COVID-19 outbreak

Second Lockdown

July 20, 2020

As infection rates rise in the state of California, we are experiencing a second lockdown. Businesses are being told to close just as quickly as they reopened. While we encourage people to stay home and reduce the risk of infection.

A few days ago, Governor Gavin Newsom announced: “statewide restrictions… to halt all indoor dining and close bars, zoos, and museums”. Additionally “most counties, including Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Orange, and Riverside, have now shutdown gyms, houses of worship, hair salons, malls and other businesses under the new order. Which is effective immediately and remains in effect indefinitely. In addition, offices with nonessential workers in those counties must close” (LA Times). These restrictions are more similar to the lockdown that happened earlier this year. Which indicates that this is the second lockdown.

Phase 2 Of COVID-19

While this is the second lockdown, we never truly lowered the curve or decreased the spread, which is why this isn’t truly “Phase 2”. According to the LA Times, “As of Monday, California had seen more than 333,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and more than 7,000 deaths. This is due to the increase of transmission from easing restrictions. As well as opening up more businesses even amid an increase in infections. Hopefully, during this second lockdown, we can flatten the curve and actually reduce infection rates. This information found according to the Los Angeles Times’ tracker”. Refer to this list to check your specific county.

Businesses Effected

In terms of businesses reopening in the future, it likely depends on the county’s amount of cases and their success in reducing the spread. Governor Newsom said “counties are likely to come on and off the watchlist, which he said allows the state to operate with a “dimmer switch” to modify restrictions as needed”. Additionally, businesses can remain open if they have outdoor options and ways to comply with mask protocols. Many dine-in services are being shut down as eating and drinking conflict with mask orders.

While these are difficult times, It’s in everyone’s best interest to stay home, practice social distancing and wear masks whenever you are out. Even if you don’t think you will interact with people when you’re out, bring a mask just in case! These are new habits we must create in order to keep our community, our loved ones, and ourselves safe. It is simply selfish not to cooperate with these scientifically-backed rules and regulations.

There are fewer things or activities to do, now that businesses, restaurants, and non-essential services are closed again. Clearly, it’s a stressful time. It is especially stressful for anyone considering or planning a move. More restrictions are placed on moving services as well, so hold off unless your move is critical in any way. Buying a new home is stressful during this time as you can not view homes in person or tour neighborhoods.

Bright Side Of Lockdown

On the bright side, it’s a good idea to use the extra time at home to plan for the future in terms of moving. You can create a detailed game plan for your move, spend extra time researching moving companies, homes, ambien online pharmacy and design inspiration. While it’s discouraging not to meet with moving companies or people in person, there are virtual services available to keep you safe. You can still make progress on planning your move even while you’re staying home.

When looking for a moving company in Los Angeles, seek companies with improved health and safety regulations. Be sure to have an honest conversation about their new safety protocols that follow CDC regulations. Don’t feel discouraged about this second lockdown as it is better to stay home and stay safe rather than to put others at risk.
